I drew a girl with a venetian mask, and a big furry monster that can summon rocks, and a soldier with an oversize helmet. If you haven’t already suspected I was drawing while watching a movie that inspired all of these things. Movie title write backwards below.

day 57 (environment studies)

I have never really drawn environments, so for me just to jump in like this is proving to be difficult. So I am going back to the basics. I am finding some images of environments and speed painting them, trying to focus on the general shapes and shading. The more familiar and comfortable I get them more I risks I will take. This will also help with my sense of scale which is really off.

where ever i go i take my sketchbook with me. you never know when you have time to sketch. You miss your bus, you arrive early to an appointment, you go to your buddies house and they are running late, booom! all prime times to bust out the ol sketchbook and doodle. mine today was after stuffing my face, we sat down and watched some football, so I busted out my sketchbook and doodled while I watched. Day 34 (Silhouettes to Sketches)

Taking the Silhouettes done on day 33 and sketching out the interior of their outfits. This approach was fun, like looking at clouds, and seeing the overall shape first then your imagination takes creative control and fills in the empty spaces.

Didn’t have tons of time to draw today, had a late night yesterday. I will unleash my creative juices tomorrow!

Day 33 (Hero Silhouettes)

I tried Felix’s style with the black and white, I was using most my time on the little details that didn’t really matter. I moved over to Mike’s Silhouette thumbs and found this study very effective. At first it felt not so productive, but by the second row of silhouettes you start to see the character come out. Your drawings become more loose, and comfortable to try new things making more dynamic character silhouettes.

The Book starts with the story of the Skillful Huntsman, and from this story they do a breakdown of what they will need to concept out: Characters, environments, vehicles, weapons, and so on. This is how they created the chapters in this book. The First chapter is Designing the main character The Huntsman. They start with thumbnail silhouettes and progress from there. They say how thumbnails are a good way of to get the basic, and less creative ideas out of the way.

The breakdown of my story took some of my time today, so I started to warm up on my silhouettes, and tomorrow really crank it!

so here are my practice silhouettes.
